According to Sugar.ru price monitoring data for the period from 23.08.2018 to 30.08.2018 the US dollar rate increased by 0.8% (on 23.08 - RUR 67.62/$, on 30.08 - RUR 68.15/$). Ruble Moscow wholesale price for sugar dropped by 0.10 RUR/kg (-0.33%), Krasnodar wholesale price dropped by 0.20 RUR/kg
(-0.74%). US dollar Moscow wholesale price for sugar dropped by $0,005 /kg (-1.13%), Krasnodar wholesale price dropped by $0,006 /kg (-1.49%).
Last week, wholesale prices for sugar continued to decline under the influence of major market players and the increasing supply of sugar to the market. The working price in Krasnodar for self-pick-up is 26.50 rubles/kg. Sugar with rail shipment is extremely difficult to buy, the shortage of railcars, the park of which is gradually being deteriorating, and arrival of new ones does not compensate for the writing off of old ones. In early summer, this deficit was associated with the World Cup, but, judging by everything, this is a systemic problem of the Russian market.
According to the railway monitoring data, for 30 days of August the export of sugar is still at the level of 15 thousand tons/month (in July - 20 thousand tons per month), imports are also still inferior to July's - 12.7 thousand tons from the beginning of August (15.8 thousand tons for the whole of July). Also, the transit of sugar by the Russian rail has made 36,000 tons from the beginning of August 2018, as against 47,300 tons for the whole of July, fell.
One of the important factors of the sugar balance is the export and import of confectionery products containing sugar. According to the FCS, the export of chocolate products, incl. and cocoa powder with sugar (HS code 1806) increased by 34% for 6 months of 2018 (in comparison with the first half of last year), from 65 to 87 thousand tons, if you take the sugar content in the production of around 50%, then this is equivalent to an increase in the export of sugar from 32.5 to 43.5 thousand tons. However, imports also increased, from 33 to 44 thousand tons (from 15.5 to 22 thousand tons in sugar equivalent). The sugar confectionery group (HS code 1704) remained at the level of the previous year, approximately 30,000 tons of exports and imports, i.е. 10 thousand tons (roughly 30%) in terms of white sugar. In the confectionery group (HS code 1905), exports increased insignificantly, from 44 to 49 thousand tons (20%, from 8.8 to 9.8 thousand tons of white sugar), but imports increased significantly, from 12 to 18 thousand tons (20%, from 2.4 to 3.6 thousand tons of white sugar) compared to January-June 2017. Summarizing the final balance, imports to Russia for the first half of the year, compared to the first half of last year, increased from 27.9 thousand tons to 35.6 thousand tons of conventional white sugar, exports from 51.3 thousand tons to 63, 3 thousand tons. Total net balance of white sugar in confectionery products in the first half of 2017 was -23.4 thousand tons, and in 2018 - 27.7 thousand tons. Such volumes against a surplus of Russian sugar production have little effect on anything.
