RUSSIA
As of August 20, 2018, total 20 sugar refineries have been processing sugar beet (last year 30 plants operated on the same date), Soyuzrossahar reports. Due to the prevailing climatic conditions, by today the bulk harvest of sugar beet makes about 1.0 million tons, which is 2 times less than last year. Beet sugar production makes 109.0 thousand tons, which is 56% less than last year.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, on August 21, 2018, sugar beet was harvested from the area of 24.0 thousand hectares or 2.1% of the sown area (in 2017 - 44.6 thousand hectares).

According to the analysis of National Statistics Office of Georgia, conducted by Sugar.Ru, in July 2018 the import of sugar (HS code 1701) has made $8.8 million ($12.5 million in 2017). Totally in for January - July 2018 Georgia imported sugar for $28.9 million ($29.6 million in 2017). Export of sugar in January - July 2018 has made $944.1, total for 7 months 2018 - $1.4 thousand (in 2017 - $1.4 thousand).
