Consumer sugar prices increased by 1.2% in the period May 15 to 21, 2018, in Russia and from the beginning of the year (by the end of December 2017) - by 7.1%, according to Rosstat.

According to Sugar.ru price monitoring data for the period from 17.05.2018 to 24.05.2018 the US dollar rate dropped by -1,1% (on 17.05 - RUR 62,30/$, on 24.05 - RUR 61,59/$). Ruble Moscow wholesale price for sugar dropped by 0,80 RUR/kg (-2,22%), Krasnodar wholesale price has not changed staying around 34,20 RUR/kg. US dollar Moscow wholesale price for sugar dropped by $0,007 /kg (-1,21%), Krasnodar wholesale price increased by $0,006 /kg (+1,09%).
Over the past week, wholesale prices for sugar fluctuated near the level of 34 rubles per kilo (basis Krasnodar) and large producers have stopped increasing prices. Real sales are at the level of 34 rubles / kg, and even lower, although officially the companies declare the price of 35 rubles per kilo, fearing to become the initiators of the price reduction. Demand is low, regional players have purchased volumes earlier at a peak of prices. The market is waiting for news on the development of sugar beet, given the difficult weather conditions, we will give a preliminary estimate of the yield of 6.1 million tons in sugar equivalent.
Exports of sugar remained low, shipments amounted to only 11.3 thousand tons by rail in the 24 days of May, but locals from various places report growing sugar prices in Kazakhstan and increased supply of sugar there by trucks. Nature does not stand emptiness in this sugar supply world, and transit of sugar by Russian railway to Azerbaijan and the countries of Central Asia grows. Thus, Ukraine delivered 36.6 thousand tons (30.1 thousand tons in April), Belarus - 12.1 thousand tons (in April - 12.8 thousand tons). In comparison to April figures, the import of Belarusian sugar increased from 14.3 thousand tons in the whole month of April to 17.5 thousand tons in 24 days of May.
Two steamers with sugar raw for Kazakhstan, one for processing in favor of Uzbekistan, continue to anchor on roads in the port of Novorossiysk. It seems that the problem with financing from the Kazakh side is more serious than we assumed in previous reviews. The fine for idle time should be no less than hundreds of thousand dollars, and the prospects of dispatch of raw sugar to Kazakhstan are vague. Taking into account the fact that one vessel with craws was already unloaded in Transcaucasia, and another two are nominated, a possible option would be to process raw sugar (from Novorossiysk) at a Russian plant without paying customs duties, with further supply of sugar to Uzbekistan, or direct delivery of raw sugar to Uzbekistan.
UKRAINE
According to the figures by the State Statistics Service of Ukraine, processed by Sugar.Ru, sugar, pulp and molasses were not produced in April 2018. Total 70,000 tons of sugar were produced in January-April 2018, (11,000 tons in January-April 2017). Stocks of sugar by the end of March 2018, according to Ukrstat, amounted to 534.8 thousand tons, molasses - 102 thousand tons, beet pulp - 775 thousand tons.
