RUSSIA
From May 8 to May 14, 2018 Russian consumer sugar prices increased by 1.3%, and since the beginning of the year (by the end of December 2017) - by 5.5%, according to Rosstat.

According to Sugar.ru price monitoring data for the period from 10.05.2018 to 17.05.2018 the US dollar rate dropped by -1,1% (on 10.05 - RUR 63,01/$, on 17.05 - RUR 62,30/$). Ruble Moscow wholesale price for sugar increased by 1,00 RUR/kg (+2,86%), Krasnodar wholesale price increased by 1,00 RUR/kg (+3,01%). US dollar Moscow wholesale price for sugar increased by $0,023 /kg (+4,14%), Krasnodar wholesale price increased by $0,022 /kg (+4,17%).
Over the past week, wholesale prices for sugar continued to rise, but the pace is slowing down. Prodimex raises prices by 0.2 rubles/kg daily, immediately followed by other market players, bringing the price to 35 rubles/kg, however, as market participants say, sellers are willing to make discounts. The real price of sugar today lies in the range of 34.00-34.50 rubles per kilogram (basis Krasnodar).
Exports of sugar continue to decline. In the first half of the month only 7.7 thousand tons were exported by rail, mainly to Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, there are no exports to Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan by rail. At the same time, within 15 days of May, Ukraine supplied Uzbekistan with 20.6 thousand tons of white sugar and 3.0 thousand tons for Azerbaijan, and Belarus delivered 5.8 thousand tons for Kazakhstan and 970 tons for Uzbekistan.
There is no particularly optimistic news on the harvest yet. In the northern regions of Krasnodar the harvest is affected by drought; sowing in the central regions has shifted because of the cold weather, it is cold in the Altai Territory as well. Producers of agricultural products complain about low prices and problems with railcars, but a radical decrease in acreage of sugar beet is not expected, if it does, then a few percent.
Novorossiysk port is waiting for a parcel of raw sugar, which is intended to be processed in Kyrgyzstan, the last time such shipment was in May 2016. Another vessel with raw sugar is nominated to Odessa from Brazil, but it is still unclear where this raw material will eventually go.
KAZAKHSTAN
According to the analysis of EEC data on Kazakhstan conducted by Sugar.Ru, in March 2018 imports of sugar (HS 1701) amounted to 53.60 thousand MT. Thus total refined sugar imports in January-February 2018, has made 90.90 thousand tons or 2.1 times more than in the same period in 2017.
UKRAINE
According to Statkom of Ukraine, conducted by Sugar.Ru, wholesale price of sugar from producers decreased over the month by 1.42% in April 2018 and has made 9648.6 UAH/MT (in the previous month - 9787.8 UAH/MT, in April 2017 - 12972.8 UAH/MT). Russian rouble equivalent price (at the exchange rate of the Russian Central Bank for the middle of the reporting month) has increased over the month by 5.70% in April 2018 and has made 22681.4 RUB/MT (in the previous month - 21458.0 RUB/MT, in April 2017 - 26760.8 RUB/MT). USD equivalent price (at the exchange rate of the Russian Central Bank for the middle of the reporting month) has decreased over the month by 2.03% in April 2018 and has made 369.2 USD/MT (in the previous month - 376.9 USD/MT, in April 2017 - 475.4 USD/MT).
