RUSSIA
A record volume of refined sugar - 778.9 thousand tons - was produced in Lipetsk region following the 2016/17 season (almost 100 thousand tons more than in 2016-2017). Total volume processed has made 5.78 million tons of beets. In addition, Dobrinsky Sugar Plant has put into storage 59,426 cubic meters of sugar syrup for further processing (last season - 34,441 cubic meters).

According to Sugar.ru price monitoring data for the period from 22.02.2018 to 01.03.2018 the US dollar rate dropped by -0.5% (on 22.02 - RUR 56.65/$, on 01.03 - RUR 56.37/$). Ruble Moscow wholesale price for sugar has not changed staying around 28.60 RUR/kg, Krasnodar wholesale price dropped by 0.40 RUR/kg (-1.49%). US dollar Moscow wholesale price for sugar increased by $0.002 /kg (+0.40%), Krasnodar wholesale price dropped by $0.005 /kg (-1.06%).
The past week has passed under the reign of stability. Demand is low, sales of sugar – as well. The real prices for railcar deliveries are about 26.3-26.5 rub/kg (basis Krasnodar), self-transportation - 26.8 rubles/kg from Krasnodar. Export deliveries are cheaper, contract deliveries are reported in the range of 24.0-24.5 rubles per kilogram.
News comes from a number of regions stating the increase of sugar beet acreage in the coming season, for example, the Nizhny Novgorod region plans to double the beet crop, up to 14.5 thousand hectares, but it is still too early to speak about the general trend for the current sowing season. The Ministry of Agriculture predicts a decrease in the acreage of sugar beet in 2018 to 1095.4 thousand hectares (in 2017 - 1176.5 thousand hectares)
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, last year consumption of sugar increased by 400 g per capita making annual figure as high as 39.4 kg. But it is unclear where does the Ministry of Agriculture generally take these figures and what Russian population is included.
According to the monitoring data of Sugar.Ru, Russia imported 19.6 thousand tons of white sugar in February, in January-February 2018 – 47 251 MT. The largest exporting countries in these 2 months were Belarus (96.48%) and Lithuania (3.52%). Russia's exports by rail decline, and amounted to 51.3 thousand tons in February (86.3 thousand tons in January, making total 137622 MT in the first 2 months of 2018), of which 33.7 thousand tons was received by Uzbekistan, and 13.6 thousand tons by Kazakhstan. Domestic shipments in 2 months amounted to 209186 MT, the largest volume of shipments was made by Cheremovsky (7.92%) and Bekovsky (6.82%) sugar plants. The total transit by rail through the territory of Russia was 55387 MT.
Customs UNION
The duty on import of raw sugar to the Customs Union remains at $ 240/MT in March 2018. The average monthly price for raw sugar at the ICE stock exchange was $ 298,92/MT in February 2018, respectively, the import duty in April 2018 will remain at the level - $ 240/MT.
AZERBAIJAN
According to figures by the customs service of Azerbaijan, processed by Sugar.Ru, in January 2018 sugar exports amounted to 877 MT (in January 2017 - 2276 MT). Imports of sugar and raw sugar in January amounted to 11,533 MT, in January of last year - 27,011 MT
