According to Sugar.ru price monitoring data for the period from 14.09.2017 to 21.09.2017 the US dollar rate increased by 0.8% (on 14.09 - RUR 57,67/$, on 21.09 - RUR 58,13/$). Ruble Moscow wholesale price for sugar dropped by 2.70 RUR/kg (-9.47%), Krasnodar wholesale price has not changed staying at 25.60 RUR/kg. US dollar Moscow wholesale price for sugar dropped by $0,050 /kg (-10.12%), Krasnodar wholesale price dropped by $0,004 /kg (-0.90%).
By the end of last week, an uptrend has emerged leading to higher prices. First, in a number of regions of the Trans-Urals, there was a shortage of sugar, which led to an increase in prices. It’s quite logical situation, given that the regions have not bought sugar for a long time. Then, "Dominant", apparently having fulfilled the plan for selling sugar in September, has raised prices. In the central part of Russia, significant quantities of sugar were bought by representatives of Belarus. As a result, prices began to rise from Wednesday midday. The exception is Rusagro, which sells sugar at 25 rubles per kg, though they have set the upper limit of sales volume at 1,000-2,000 tons basis EWX (the 20-ton limits offered by Prodimex do not affect the market and are neglected).
Nevertheless, there are no fundamental reasons for the prices to grow, especially having in mind that in a few days all the Russian plants will be operating on sugar beet. A good help could be the growth of the US dollar rate and, accordingly, the export of white sugar. The latest news about the rehabilitation of the largest banks hints at possible inflation, however, the falling banking sector may be life hazard.
UKRAINE
According to official figures by Gosstat, Ukraine sold 452.2 thousand tons of white sugar at an average price of UAH 12,503.6/MT in January-August 2017. Last year, during the first 8 months of 2016, the total volume of sales in the country was 263.8 thousand tons. A number of regions areas are missing from Gosstat statistics with reference to confidential information.
BELARUS
Igor Shustov (the First Deputy Chairman of the Belgospischeprom Concern) has stated that there are no conversations on restrictive measures against the supply of Belarus sugar to the EEA.
