According to Sugar.ru price monitoring data for the period from July 13, 2017 to July 20, 2017, the US dollar rate fell by 2.3% (on July 13 – RUR 60.62/$; on July 20 – RUR 59.24/$). The end demand has somewhat revived, but continues to be low, so that the small stocks of sugar remaining with producers are sufficient to meet it. Regional companies still earn from a supply of sugar to industrial producers. The fall in the price of sugar stopped at 40 rubles per kilogram, but more and more producers and large wholesalers declare the trade stopped before the new crop due to the lack of sugar. Railway monitoring by Sugar.Ru shows a significant drop in shipments in July this year, a preliminary estimate for July is 97 000 tons, or even less (in 2016 - 119 thousand tons), hence, not much sugar is available in in the regions.
On the eve of the new harvest, Krasnodar companies are beginning to offer forwards for sugar at a price of 40-41 rubles per kilogram, but the offers are not in high demand yet. In any case, the launch of Krasnodar plants cannot cover the need for sugar everywhere in Russia, and it means that a sugar deficit scenario will persist until the start-up of factories in the central part of Russia. Having in mind this fact, the market is ready for an increase in sugar prices, so it is possible that we will withness it next week.
