RUSSIA
In May 2017 the consumer prices for refined sugar fell by 0.3% in Russia, since the beginning of the year - by 9.6%, and in annual terms (by May 2016) - by 16%, according to the Federal State Statistics Service.

The proceeds of the agricultural holding "Kuban" increased by 8%, reaching 10.8 billion rubles by the results of operations in 2016. The production of sugar beet grew by 28% (511 thousand tons). The plant has also produced a record volume of refined sugar - 102 thousand tons, which is 25 thousand tons more than in 2015.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, sugar beet was sown on an area of about 1.2 million hectares by June 6, 2017 which makes 104.6% of the forecast (in 2016 - 1.1 million hectares).
KAZAKHSTAN
Against the background of growing Russian export of white sugar to Kazakhstan (118.7 thousand tons for 10 months of 2016/17 MY and 2.3 thousand tons for the whole previous MY), the transit of white sugar to Kazakhstan by the Russian railway has decreased dramatically: 36.5 thousand tons for 10 months of the current MY against 76.1 thousand tons in the previous one. The only country that supplied white sugar to Kazakhstan via the Russian railway in 2017 was Belarus - 16.9 thousand tons in January-May 2017.
