RUSSIA
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, sugar beet was sown on an area of 961.4 thousand hectares or 85.2% of the forecast by May 4, 2017, (in 2016 - 810.4 thousand ha). In the Lipetsk region, as of May 3, the sowing of sugar beets was completed at 124 thousand hectares, the regional administration reports.

According to the railway cargo monitoring by Sugar.Ru, for 4 months 2017 Russia exported 150.4 thousand tons of sugar (in 2016 - 1.3 thousand tons). The main recipients were Kazakhstan (40.4%) and Azerbaijan (32.5%). The largest exporters of Russian sugar by rail in 2017 were Uspensky (29.3 thousand tons) and Elan-Kolenovsky (22.6 thousand tons) sugar mills.

From March 30 to April 27, the average sugar prices in Ukraine remained at the level of 16.46 hryvnia/kg (35.77 rubles / kg), according to Ukrstat.

According to the railway cargo monitoring by Sugar.Ru, Ukraine resumed the export of sugar to the Caucasus in Central Asia in April 2017, total volume delivered by rail transit the Russian Federation has made 47 thousand tons of sugar, thus total exports for 4 months of 2017 made 6.2 thousand tons (in 2016 - 8 thousand tons). The main recipient of transit Ukrainian sugar was Azerbaijan, which received 4.5 thousand tons since the beginning of the year.
