RUSSIA

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, sugar beet was sown on the area of 107.0 thousand hectares as of April 3, 2017 or 9.5% of the forecast (in 2016 - 64.8 thousand hectares).

According to the figures by Williams Brasil dated April 4, 2017, total 5 vessels have been nominated to carry 168150 MT of raw cane sugar in 2017 season from Brazilian seaports to the Black/Baltic seaports with end-receivers in CIS, Georgia and Baltic states. As of today, the volume received and unloaded makes 78000 MT from 2 vessels, based on Sugar.ru data.

UKRAINE

Agricultural enterprises started sugar beet sowing campaign and have already seeded 7,000 hectares by the beginning of April. Total sugar acreage planned for seeding this season makes 293 000 hectares, according to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy. In 2016, the production of sugar beet amounted to 13 879 thousand tons, which is 3 544.6 thousand tons, or 34.3% more than in 2015. The average yield of sugar beet in 2016 amounted to 48.24 MT/ha against 43.58 MT/ha in 2015. Agrarians harvested crops from an area of 287.9 thousand hectares. In 2015 the sugar beet harvest was 10.3 million tons, in 2014 - 15.7 million tons.

Sugar beet sowing began in most areas of Vinnitsa region; crop acreage planned makes 55 thousand hectares this year (+5,000 from 2016). Six sugar refineries will operate in the region in the season 2017/18.

KAZAKHSTAN

According to Kazakhstan Statkom, the local sugar prices from manufacturers decreased by 0.6% in March 2017, and from the beginning of the year - by 5.4%.
