RUSSIA
GC "Rusagro" reduced net profit by 42%, to 13.6 billion rubles in 2016. The company explained this fact by reducing the volume of subsidies, as well as strengthening of the ruble and lower prices for products. The Board of Directors of Rusagro has recommended the payment of dividends for 2016 in the amount of 6,623,689,109.54 rubles (US$ 108,931,116.17), which is 48% of the net profit for 2016.

According to Soyuzrossahar, the work of sugar beet processing plants has been suspended as of March 6, 2017. Total 46 240.3 thousand tons of sugar beet was processed since the end of July 2016 (34.7% higher than the level of the previous year); 6 083.7 thousand tons of white sugar was produced (17.5% higher than the level of the previous year). The consumption of sugar per capita was 38.5 kg in 2016 against standard rational rate of 24 kg.

According to the figures by Williams Brasil dated March 14, 2017, total 4 vessels have been nominated to carry 138750 MT of raw cane sugar in 2017 season from Brazilian seaports to the Black/Baltic seaports with end-receivers in CIS, Georgia and Baltic states. As of today, the volume received and unloaded makes 42000 MT from 1 vessel, based on Sugar.ru data.
KYRGYZSTAN
According to Duishenkul Mateev, director of the plant “Kaindy-Kant”, the demand for sugar for 6 million population of the country makes up about 145 thousand tons annually, but in recent years the Kyrgyz Republic consumes about 90-100 thousand tons per year.

The international financial group Fairfax Financial Holdings Limited has acquired another 9.99% stake in the Ukrainian agro-industrial holding Astarta, having bought 2 million 497.8 thousand shares from Victor Korotkov, the founder of Astarta. Earlier this year, Fairfax has already bought back 9.99% or 2 million 497.5 thousand shares of Astarta.
