RUSSIA

"Rusagro" regards the Central Asian countries to be the most attractive destination for Russian sugar, according to CEO Maxim Basov. The officer considers that Russia will be produce from 5.6 to 6 million tons of sugar in 2016, of which up to 700 000 tons will be exported.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the wholesale price of sugar increased by 0.3%, retail decreased by 0.8% from October 25 to October 31, 2016.

"Razgulyay" has sold to PSB (PromSvyasBank) the two sugar factories: "Bolshevik" and "Lgovsky".

The consumer prices for sugar in Russia have decreased by 3.7% in October 2016, on year on year basis (October 2016 to October 2015) the growth has made 3.3%, according to Rosstat.

According to railway monitoring data by Sugar.Ru, in October 2016 Russia has sharply increased the exports of white sugar, which amounted to 19.4 thousand tons. For comparison, last year a total volume of 259 tons was exported by railway in October 2015. The main export destinations in October 2016 are Kazakhstan and Tajikistan. The major exporter sugar factory is "Uspensky sakharnik" (owned by Prodimex)

By November 4, 2016 the country has harvested 10.5 million tons of sugar beet from the area of 222 thousand ha (76% of total acreage). The average yield makes 47.4 MT/ha, reports the Ministry of Agrarian Policy.

Antimonopoly Committee has allowed the company Fairfax Financial Holdings (Toronto, Canada) to indirectly acquire more than 25% of "Astarta" holding.
