RUSSIA

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, sugar beets were harvested from the area of 977.2 thousand hectares (88% of the area sown) by November 2, 2016.

Emergency situation is announced in Tula region because of crop failure due to the lasting poor weather conditions in the region.

The consumer prices for sugar have decreased by 0.8% in the period October 25 to 31, 2016; from the beginning of the year – by 0.2% (vs. the end of December 2015), according to Rosstat.

According to the data of price monitoring by Sugar.ru for the period October 27 – November 03, 2016, the US dollar exchange rate increased by 1.9% (on October 27 US$ 1=RUR 62.26; on November 3 –US$ 1=RUR 63.42). Moscow ruble price of sugar fell by RUR 1.00/kg (-2.56%), in Krasnodar price dropped by RUR 0.40/kg (-1.08%). US dollar equivalent price decreased by US$ 0.027/kg (-4.31%) in Moscow and by US$ 0.017/kg (-2.86%) in Krasnodar.

After a period of stabilization of sugar prices from producers, there was an attempt of large companies to raise prices, but finally the factories price dropped by RUR 0.40-1.00/kg. The level of sugar sales is moderate; market participants mark some interest on the part of manufacturers. The major event worth mentioning is the export contract for the supply of 4 thousand tons of white sugar by Rusagro.

From September 30 to October 31, 2016 the weighted average price of sugar in the country has increased by 2.11% or by UAH 0.3/kg (RUR 0.74) to reach UAH 14.02/kg (RUR 34.74/kg), the State Statistics Committee reported.

The six Vinnitsa region sugar mills have already manufactured nearly 250 000 tons of sugar, spokesman for the regional administration has told. Bulk harvest collected makes 1 930.2 thousand tons of sugar beet with an average yield of 49.45 MT/ha (in 2015 - 39.80 MT/ha). The acreage remaining makes 15.8 thousand ha (18.8%).
