RUSSIA

According to the Kursk regional committee of agriculture, the total area of crops perished from the dust storms has grown to 15,308 hectares. All the affected fields were re-seeded, including 11207 hectares of sugar beet. In view of reseeding the acreage under sugar beet in the region this season makes 97 thousand hectares. According to the agriculture authorities of neighbouring areas, sugar beet crops were lost in Tambov region (20 thousand hectares), Lipetsk (18 thousand hectares), Voronezh (16 thousand ha), Orel (9000 hectares) and Belgorod (8000 hectares).

According to the Ministry of Agriculture report dated May 28, 2015, Russia has sown sugar beet on an area of 1002 thousand hectares or 102.2% of the forecast (in 2014 –- 910 200 ha).

In Nizhny Novgorod region, sugar production has declined by 48.4% in January-April 2015 against January-April 2014.

Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has appointed Sergei Levin to the position of Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture informs.

 

UKRAINE

Agricultural enterprises of Ukraine (excluding the Crimea and Sevastopol), have sold 89,600 tons of sugar in April, which is 34% more than in March 2015, the State Statistics Service has informed. In January-April agribusiness companies have sold 286,600 tons of sugar, which is 32% more than the same period in 2014.
