According to Sugar.ru price monitoring data for the period from 28.12.2017 to 11.01.2018 the US dollar rate dropped by -1,0% (on 28.12 - RUR 57,45/$, on 11.01 - RUR 56,87/$). Ruble Moscow wholesale price for sugar increased by 0,10 RUR/kg (+0,37%), Krasnodar wholesale price increased by 0,30 RUR/kg (+1,22%). US dollar Moscow wholesale price for sugar increased by $0,006 /kg (+1,27%), Krasnodar wholesale price increased by $0,010 /kg (+2,35%).
The end of 2017 and the beginning of 2018 did not lead to a change in wholesale prices in the sugar market, prices remained stable during the past two weeks. A small demand and price growth was outlined today, on January 11, but it was not supported by many. Most sellers are waiting for the price increase in the short term, in long-terms expectations are less optimistic.
December 2017 was marked by a record export of Russian sugar, 112.3 thousand tons of white sugar were shipped by railway only, of which 89.2 thousand tons were delivered to Uzbekistan. Thus, total annual exports of Russian sugar by rail in 2017 have made 440,000 tons, including 222.9 thousand tons exported in the period of juice extracting (August-December 2017). Volumes delivered by rail (from the beginning of the season) truck shipments to CIS countries should be added; and we estimate such exports in the following breakdown by destination: 33 000 tons – Belarus; 25 000 tons - Ukraine (Donetsk and Lugansk regions); Armenia - 11 000 tons; Georgia - 6 000 tons, Abkhazia – 1,500 tons. Finally, from the beginning of the season, Russian sugar exports are estimated at 300 thousand tons of white sugar. However, sugar shipments by rail in January show a significant drop, in the first 11 days only 13.1 thousand tons were shipped for export. And it turns out that some December shipments were urgent advance January exports in a view of long holidays ahead.

According to the analysis of customs declarations of FCS conducted by Sugar.ru, in November 2017 Russia has exported 604.6 thousand tons of molasses. According to the results of 11 months of molasses export campaign, Russia has shipped out 604.6 thousand tons (in 2016 - 406.4 thousand MT; in 2015 - 268.6 thousand MT).
In the period January - November 2017, the main countries importers of molasses from Russia were TURKEY (49.48%) and SPAIN (14.13%).
KAZAKHSTAN
According to the analysis of data by the Bureau of national statistics of Kazakhstan, conducted by Sugar.Ru, in 11 months (January - November) of 2017 with the EEA countries: import of white sugar in solid state (HS code 170199) has made 149,8 thousand MT (115 thousand MT – Russian and 35 thousand MT – Belarus). Export of other sugars (HS code 1702) has made 12.8 thousand MT, import - 6155,3 MT.
