RUSSIA
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, sugar beet was sown on an area of 702.8 thousand ha or 66.3% of the forecast as of April 25, 2016 (in 2015 411.8 thousand hectares). According to the figures by Williams Brasil dated April 26, 2016, total 15 vessels have been nominated to carry 516800 MT of raw cane sugar in 2016 season from Brazilian seaports to the Black/Baltic seaports with end-receivers in CIS, Georgia and Baltic states. As of today, the volume received and unloaded makes 279800 MT from 8 vessels, based on Sugar.ru data.
UKRAINE
According to the USDA, sugar beet production in Ukraine will reduce in 2015/16 marketing year. The acreage of sugar beet has reached its lowest level since 1991 – 237 thousand ha. In 2015/16 marketing year sugar beet harvest has made almost 10.3 million MT, which is lower than production in the previous season by over 65%. Sugar production in Ukraine in 2016/17 MY will grow to almost 1.7 million MT, which makes 200 000 tons, if compared to the volume of production in the previous season. However, in 2015/16 MY the export of sugar is estimated at 30 thousand tons, and in 2016/17 is projected at 90 000 tons, driven by growing sugar beet production volume.
AZERBAIJAN
Azerbaijan has imported 19 994.3 tons of raw sugar and sugar in January-February 2016, which is 26.7% less than import in the same period last year.
