RUSSIA

Over the past week (September 22 to 28, 2015) Russia's consumer price of sugar fell by 0.5%, while from the beginning of the year the increase has made 18.2%, according to Rosstat.

According to price monitoring by sugar.ru in the period September 24 – October 1, 2015 the US dollar exchange rate has dropped by 0.5% (on Sept 24 the rate was US$ 1= RUR 66.04; on October 1, 2015 – US$ 1= RUR 65.74). Moscow RUR price of sugar has not changed, remaining at the level of RUR 40.70/kg, in Krasnodar price has added RUR 0.50/kg (+ 1.28%). Moscow US dollar equivalent price of sugar grew by US$ 0.003/kg (0.49%), in Krasnodar price grew by US$ 0.010/kg (+ 1.69%).

 
UKRAINE

Alexander Shpichak, Head of department of "Institute of Agrarian Economics," has suggested that the growth of sugar prices is expected to vary in the range of 15-20% in the season 2015/2016 (marketing year) provided stable national currency exchange rate. According to the institute, the yield of sugar beet is expected to make average 40 MT/ha(compared to 47 MT/ha in 2014), gross harvest - about 9.3 million tons. Sugar production in 2015/16 will make 1.2 million tons. Given the transitional stocks of sugar at the beginning of the marketing year in the amount of 542 thousand tons, the total supply of sugar to the domestic market will be in 1 742 000 MT. The actual consumption of sugar in 2015/2016 MG is expected to reach 1550-1600 thousand tons. A decrease in volumes will occur due to a decline in purchasing capacity and loss of the territory of Donetsk, Lugansk regions and Crimea.

According to Ministry of Agrarian Policy, the country has harvested 34 thousand hectares of sugar beet (18%) by September 30; average yields make 38.8 MT/ha; bulk volume collected has reached 1.7 million tons of sugar beet. Total sugar production this season is expected to make 1.2-1.3 million tons; the carry-over stocks make now around 500 thousand tons.

The consumer prices for sugar have increased by 13.4% in September 2015; from the beginning of the year the growth has made 8.1%.
