RUSSIA

According to the operative data of the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia dated May 20, 2015, Russia has sown sugar beet on an area of 982,200 hectares, or 100.2% of the forecast (in 2014 – 903 100 ha).

According to price monitoring by sugar.ru for the period from May 14 to May 21, 2015, the exchange rate RUR/US dollar grew by 0.5% (on May 14 – US$1 = RUR 49.54; on May 21 – US$1 = 49.79). Moscow ruble price of sugar fell by 1.80 rubles/kg (-4.34%), Krasnodar price fell by 1.70 rubles/kg (-4.28%). In Moscow the US dollar equivalent price of sugar fell by US$ 0.041/kg (-4.89%), in Krasnodar the price dropped by US$ 0.038/kg (-4.74%).

According to latest information, the area affected by wind erosion of crops can grow up to 90 thousand hectares (out of 560 thousand ha planted in the Central Federal district), reported Soyuzrossahar. In mid-May sowing of sugar beet has been virtually completed in all 28 beet-growing regions of the country. By May 19 farmers have planted 981 000 hectares (in 2014 - 902,000 hectares). It is planned to sow total 1002 thousand ha, which is 83 thousand hectares higher than last year.

Consumer prices for sugar decreased by 0.3% in Russia in the period May 13-18, 2015, the press service of the Federal State Statistics Service informs. From early May 2015 the consumer prices for sugar fell by 1.1%; from the beginning of the year (from the end of December 2014) have increased by 12.3%.

Beet growers in Altai Territory have completed sowing sugar beet. This season, the acreage under the crop has grown from 17 to 22 thousand hectares.

According Soyuzrossakhar figures issued on May 20, the Russian Federation has sown 983,100 hectares of sugar beet (98.1% of projected areas of crops). In 2014, on this date 907,300 hectares were planted. Because of the strong hurricane the crops of sugar beet were damaged in several regions of the Central Federal District and in Penza region. The monitoring of damage continues; the issue of re-seeding the crops is under discussion.

Strong winds have sensibly affected agricultural crops in Nizhnedevitsky district of Voronezh region on May 16 and 17. Wind blew out the shoots of sugar beet and sunflower at 2,000 hectares.

 

UKRAINE

The holding company “Astarte”, one of the largest Ukrainian producer of sugar, have bought back 110,500 of its shares during trading sessions at the main pit of the Warsaw Stock Exchange.

The volume of imports of commodities listed under category “Sugar and sugar confectionery” have amounted to US$ 7,648,900 in January-March 2015, which is 56% less than in 2014. The value of exports for this category has made total US$ 42,981,500 in January-March 2015, which is 45.1% more than in 2014.

KYRGYZSTAN

It is planned to sow sugar beet on 415 hectares of land in the Moscow district of Chui oblast. Of these, by far only 188 hectares of land were planted. Having in mind problems with dispatch and sales of sugar beet in the past year, this year farmers have planted 200 hectares of beets less.
