RUSSIA

The average consumer price for sugar amounted to 54.93 rubles per 1 kg in February 2016, which is more by 1.57 rubles, than a month ago, according to Rosstat.

According to price monitoring by Sugar.ru for the period March 10–17, 2016, the dollar exchange rate has continued to fall and dropped by 1.9% (on Mar 10 – RUR 72.38/$; on Mar 17 RUR 71.03/$). The Moscow ruble price of sugar has decreased by RUR 0.50 rubles/kg (-1.19%), Krasnodar price increased by RUR 0.80/kg (- 1.94%). Other regions also dropped. The CBR, as expected, wasn’t cut Bank Rate and suggests a new drop in oil prices (usually happens the other way round), so the weakening of the ruble in the short term and, accordingly, increase the price of sugar can be expect. Moscow US dollar price of sugar has increased by US$ 0.004/kg (+ 0.69%), Krasnodar price has dropped by US$ 0.001/kg (- 0.18%).

 

UKRAINE

Since the beginning of 2016 Ukraine exported 36 thousand tons of sugar and imported 20 thousand tons, reports "Ukrtsukor".

BELARUS

At 17 March 2016, the Council of the EAEC held a meeting, which discussed the agricultural policy coordinated issue. Earlier, the Collegium of the EAEC took the decision to introduce the question of duty-free quota to the Republic of Belarus on the Council meeting, but on March 17 this question was not considered. According to the regulations, only the Council of the EAEC makes decision on the quota for so-called sensitive products group (sugar is included in this group), and the decision must be made unanimously by all member countries of the EAEU.

According Statistics Committee of Belarus, sugar production in the country amounted to 31.8 thousand tons in February 2016, which is by 50% more than in January 2015. In January-February 2016, an industrial production of sugar in the Republic of Belarus amounted to 52.2 thousand tons, which is by 32% less than the same indicator in 2015.

MOLDOVA

In 2016, the joint venture Sudzucker Moldova increased the price for contracted beet from future harvest up to 700 MDL/ton (in 2015 - 600 MDL /ton), said the company speaker Alexander Koss.

CIS

CIS countries can increase the production of beet sugar by 9%, in 2016, said the Executive Director of the Eurasian Sugar Association Andrey Bodin at the conference "CIS Sugar Market 2016". According to the Association forecast, the beet sugar production in the region may reach 7,928 million tons by the end of this year, compared to 7,283 million tons in 2015. Taking into account the existing balances, the Russian Federation can propose to the market about 200 thousand tons of surplus sugar, in 2017.
