RUSSIA

Sugar beet crops in Voronezh region are planned to occupy acreage of 125 thousand hectares (plus 11 000 ha to the previous year), said Governor Alexei Gordeyev.

Company from Thailand has formed a pool of foreign investors from Indonesia and Japan for the construction of a sugar factory in Khabarovsk region, according to Nikolay Brusnikin, the First Deputy Prime Minister of the region. The projected daily capacity is 1500 tons. The total project cost is estimated at US$ 200 million.

Russian consumer prices for sugar increased by 0.4% in the period from February 21 to February 29 2016; while from the beginning of the year - by 4.8%, according to Rosstat.

According to the price monitoring data by Sugar.ru in the period from February 25 to March 3, 2016 the dollar exchange rate continued to fall and has dropped by 3.6% (on February 25 US$1=RUR 76.39; on March 03 – US$1=RUR 73.63). The falling dollar drags the sugar price; thus the Moscow ruble price of sugar fell by RUR 1.00/kg (-2.27%), Krasnodar price fell by RUR 1.10/kg (-2.58%). US dollar equivalent Moscow price of sugar has added US$ 0.008/kg (+ 1.39%), Krasnodar dollar price grew by US$ 0.006/kg (+ 1.07%).

UKRAINE

Gaysinsky sugar refinery has processed 692 thousand tons of raw sugar and has produced over 104 thousand tons of sugar in 2015, which makes it a leader in the national industry by production volume.

The first two months of 2016 continue to witness a sharp decline of Ukrainian transit of white sugar through Russia. If in January-February 2015 Ukraine has delivered 16.5 thousand tons of white sugar by railway transit Russia, then for two months of 2016 the transit of Ukrainian sugar has made only 3.7 thousand MT (with the entire volume delivered in February).
