RUSSIA

Bulk harvest of sugar beet amounted to 274.5 thousand tons in the Ryazan region in 2015 (or 115.3% compared to 2014 production volume), field yield 42.9 MT/ha. As of February 2, 2016 the region has purchased 2.5 thousand seed units of sugar beet, according to the report by regional Ministry of Agriculture.

According to Evgeny Ivanov (ICAR), in 2016 the import of raw sugar may reduce almost 2-fold, down to 300 thousand tons (compared to 2015 when 565.7 thousand tons was imported), which is justified by an increase in the production of beet sugar and favourable forecasts on sugar beet acreage for 2016 season.

According to the rail cargo monitoring figures by Sugar.Ru, Russia imported 27 thousand tons of white sugar in January 2016, almost all of volume emerged from Belarus.

According to railway cargo monitoring data by Sugar.Ru, the transit volume of white sugar across the territory of Russia by rail transport was 3.1 thousand MT in January. Half of this volume was the European sugar supply to Kazakhstan transit the territory of Ukraine.
