RUSSIA

Zolotukhinsky sugar factory (part of “Ivolga-Holding”) is facing demands to cover the debts of more than RUR 35 billion. “Ivolga-Holding” controls 550,000 hectares of land and is the second largest company in Russia by arable lands under control, according to BEFL. Bankruptcy of the enterprise was initiated by Sberbank in March 2015, but later the bank has ceded the entire debt. The biggest claim of RUR 16.2 billion was brought up against Zolotukhinsky sugar factory by the Royal Bank of Scotland.

Farmers in Stavropol region began harvesting sugar beets, according to the local Ministry of Agriculture. Beet was sown in the five districts of the region on total area of 30,100 ha (+17% vs. 2014 season), total acreage harvested to date makes 9,700 hectares with an average yield of 48.5 MT/ha.

 

UKRAINE

Ukraine was granted with duty-free quota for the supply of sugar to the EU in the amount of 20 thousand tons As part of the autonomous trade preferences for 2015, which was used by 86% in the first half 2015:  total 17.25 thousand tons of the commodity was exported EU countries, according to Mr. Aleksey Pavlenko, Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine.

According to the association "Ukrtsukor", 48 sugar factories (compared to 38 mills operating in previous season), have produced 2.081 million tons of sugar in Ukraine in 2014/2015 marketing year, which is 1.7 times more than in the season 2013/2014. "With carryover stocks by the end of the season of about 500 thousand MT, we can say that the Ukrainians will not stay without sugar in the new season, despite the slight decrease in acreage – by 95 thousand hectares to make total 239 thousand hectares," head of the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine has claimed.

According to the State Statistics Service, the consumer prices of sugar in the country rose by 1.9% in July 2015, from the beginning of the year – by 34.2%.

MOLDOVA

The droughts in Moldova affect beet roots. According to experts, the farmers will collect about 22-25 MT of sugar beet from one hectare this year. The average indicator over the last decade the yield in the country was 31 MT per hectare.
