RUSSIA

According to provisional data by Rosstat dated June 01, 2015, sugar beet was planted on an area of 993,800 hectares. According Soyuzrossakhar average growth dynamics of the sugar beet (observed at test plots as of July 1, 2015) looks as follows:

  • Beet weight -117 (-139 in 2014 was, in 2013 - 123 g)
  • Weight of foliage -227 (-259 in 2014 was, in 2013 - 227 g)
  • Density of plants - 92 thousand units per 1 ha (in 2014 - 93, in 2013 - 89 thousand units).

According to the Federal Customs Service, imports of sugar from non-CIS countries to Russia have reached US$ 38.8 million in June 2015 (+ 56.9% as of May).

According to the figures by Williams Brasil dated July 7, 2015, total 23 vessels have been nominated to carry 745430 MT of raw cane sugar in 2015 season from Brazilian seaports to the Black/Baltic seaports with end-receivers in CIS, Georgia and Baltic states. As of today, the volume received and unloaded makes 481580 MT from 15 vessels, based on sugar.ru data.

UKRAINE

According to data of the State Statistics Service of Ukraine (excluding the Crimea and Sevastopol) total sales of sugar produced in the country has made UAH 3,689,500,000 (excl. VAT and excise) in January- May 2015, including sales outside the country UAH 44 million (12%). In June 2015 the consumer prices of sugar in the country have decreased by 2.1%; from the beginning of the year the prices increased by 31.7%.

According to the forecasts of the Institute of Agricultural Economics, the largest decline in national horticulture will occur in sugar beet growing division – almost 40% in 2015. The reason for such decline is the decrease of crop acreage by nearly a third.

ARMENIA

Import of sugar in Armenia grew by 25.6% in 2014 (the decline in exports has made 4.5 times), amounting to 100.2 thousand tons compared to 79.8 thousand tons imported in 2013, the Customs Service of the Republic reports. Almost the entire volume of sugar (94.4%) was imported from Brazil – 94.6 thousand tons. The structure of sugar exports from Armenia features neighbouring Georgia only. Virtually all sugar imports to Armenia are performed by "Alex-Grir", owned by the family of Armenian oligarch parliamentarian Samvel Alexanyan.
