RUSSIA

According to Sugar.ru price monitoring data for the period from 21.02.2019 to 28.02.2019 the US dollar rate dropped by0.2% (on 21.02 - RUR 65.86/$, on 28.02 - RUR 65.76/$). Moscow wholesale price for sugar dropped by RUR 0.80/kg (-2.14%), Krasnodar wholesale price dropped by RUR 1.20/kg (-3,38%). US dollar Moscow wholesale price for sugar dropped by $0.011 /kg (-1.94%), Krasnodar wholesale price dropped by $0.017 /kg (-3.15%).

The “swing” of wholesale sugar prices continued last week. Falling to 34 rubles / kg (basis Krasnodar) on Wednesday, prices began to grow slowly. One of the reasons for this reversal may be profit fixing by traders who have already concluded sales deals at a higher price. Additionally, optimism is encouraged by news from Kazakhstan, which is experiencing problems with the purchase of raw sugar again, and in its turn it means the country will start buying Russian and Belarusian sugar.

According to Sugar.Ru railway monitoring data for February 2019, Russia imported 22.1 thousand MT of sugar from Belarus and Ukraine (1500 tons were shipped to Kaliningrad by the Radekhovsky sugar factory). Exports remain low, in February only 7.0 thousand tons of white sugar were exported by rail to Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Abkhazia. From the beginning of February, total 14.1 thousand tons of sugar passed transit the territory of Russia: Ukraine has delivered 11.7 thousand tons and Belarus - 2.4 thousand tons. The main receiver of transit cargo were Azerbaijan - 9.4 thousand tons and Tajikistan - 2.4 thousand tons.

Forecasts for the sugar beet acreage in 2019 are practically at the level of previous year, growth by a couple of percent is a regularly reported. With an average yield in mind for recent years, it can be assumed that about 6.25-6.30 million tons of white sugar will be produced next season, taking into account sugar from molasses.

UKRAINE

The top three sugar plants in terms of the capacity increase in 2018 are headed by the Radekhovsky sugar factory - up to 8.2 thousand tons / day; Zarya Podolya (Gaisin) - up to 8.0 thousand tons / day; “Podolia” (Kryzhopil) - up to 8 thousand tons / day. Out of 10 leading factories, only 2 were able to almost double DC on beet in the period from 2010 to 2018: Globinsky Sugar Refinery from 3.5 thousand tons went up to 6 thousand tons, and Zorya Podolya increased its DC from 5 thousand tons to 8 thousand tons.

In the 2019/20 marketing year, 34-35 sugar mills will operate against 42 sugar mills that were involved in the 2018/19 season. Sugar production in Ukraine is expected to reach 1.5-1.6 million tons compared to 1.82 million tons last year. In 2019, the area under sugar beet will be 230 thousand hectares, which is almost a quarter less than last year, said Ruslan Butylo, deputy head of NASU Ukrtsukor.

According to Ukrstat data, processed by Sugar.Ru, the production of sugar in January 2019 were none (in January 2018 - 70366.0 MT). The stocks of sugar decreased to 746647,0 MT in January 2019 (+2.70% vs. January 2018 and -6.50% vs. December 2018).

Yuzefo-Nikolaev Biogas Company will launch a 3 MW biogas station In May, which will operate on sugar beet pulp. Investments will amount to about 7.5 million euros, the general contractor of the project said. The station will work on sugar beet pulp, produced by the sugar factory of the Yuzefo-Nikolaev agro-industrial company.
