RUSSIA
The French group Sucden, which specializes in the food trade, has signed legally binding documentation with the TRIO Group on the creation of a joint venture based at the Yelets Sugar Factory. According to the terms of the transaction, TRIO and Sucden will own 49 and 51% of the joint-stock company’s share capital, respectively. The transaction will be completed after receiving the approval of state regulatory bodies and bank approvals.
UKRAINE
In the Sumy region only one sugar factory has operated this season in Nikolaevka, Belopolsky district out of the 18 sugar factories in the recent past. The sugar factory has ended last year with more than 100 million losses and has not yet paid debts off, and has not even paid for sugar beet supplied. Last year the plant processed 65.5 thousand tons of sugar beet and received 11 thousand tons of sugar, whereas the year before 200 thousand tons of raws were processed and 23.5 thousand tons of beet sugar received. The next season, the factory will not be launched, the administration of the region informs.
TURKMENISTAN
Huge queues for food are observed in Ashgabat grocery stores, population mainly buying sugar and rice, according to the Turkmen service of Radio Liberty - Azatlyk. The trade limit is 1 kg of sugar per person. The cost of sugar in the stores is 8 Manat (about RUR 148) per kilogram. The cost of sugar at the market is 12 Manat (about RUR 222) per kilogram.
KAZAKHSTAN
By May 29, 2019, sowing of sugar beet in Kazakhstan was performed on an area of 19.6 thousand hectares out of 22.8 thousand hectares planned (in 2018 - 19.4 thousand hectares out of 21.5 thousand hectares), the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan informed Sugar.ru.
