According to Sugar.ru price monitoring data for the period from 16.05.2019 to 23.05.2019 the US dollar rate dropped by -0,7% (on 16.05 - RUR 64,85/$, on 23.05 - RUR 64,42/$). Ruble Moscow wholesale price for sugar dropped by 0,70 RUR/kg (-2,19%), Krasnodar wholesale price dropped by 0,60 RUR/kg (-2,01%). US dollar Moscow wholesale price for sugar dropped by $0,007 /kg (-1,42%), Krasnodar wholesale price dropped by $0,007 /kg (-1,52%).
Over the past week, the price of sugar continued to fall, going as low as 28.5 rubles/kg and RUR 28.00 for a large wholesale lot. Not everyone liked this, and some companies decided to temporarily leave the market, including the largest Russian sugar company Prodimex, which has stopped selling sugar for self-delivery from factories (it should be noted that the regional network of Prodimex continues sugar trade). The signal was not only sent, but also heard by the market, on Thursday, May 23, NTB lots with cheap sugar for 28.50 rubles / kg were sold out in the very first minutes, demand was also observed at the secondary market at that price. At 15:00 the minimum offer price at the stock exchange is 29.20 rubles/kg already, sales volume reached 700 tons, a similar price trend is observed in the secondary market. It seems that we are present at the price reversal. If the “big three” (Prodimex, Dominant and Rusagro) supports this growth, there are chances for a return to the previous positions (of around 32.00 rubles / kg). In the current situation, when the acreage already sown equals the past year as well, and the harvest expectations are good so far, this is a good option.

According to Sugar.Ru railway monitoring, in 22 days of May, Russia imported only 10.0 thousand tons of white sugar, which is lower than the monthly average of the last months (22-27 thousand tons / month). Ukraine made up the backlog of the first half of the month, just from the beginning of May it supplied 472 tons of sugar to Kaliningrad (from Radekhovsky sugar plant), the rest of the sugar came from Belarus. Exports, on the contrary, exceed the level of recent months (<15 thousand tons per month) and amounted to 16.2 thousand tons from the beginning of the month. Obviously, this is caused by the fall in sugar prices, which made it more competitive. 17.9 thousand tons of white sugar (4 000 from Belarus and 13 900 from Ukraine) were delivered by the Russian railway transit Russia. The bulk of the transit went to Azerbaijan (6.4 thousand tons) and Tajikistan (5.0 thousand tons).

Export of white sugar in January - April 2019 has made $0.0, total for 4 months 2019 - $353.2 (in 2018 - $106.8).
