RUSSIA

Russia plans to export 700 thousand tons of sugar in 2017-2018, but the exports may grow up to 1 million tons, the Ministry of Agriculture believes.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, as of October 4, 2017, sugar beet was harvested from the area of 590.9 thousand hectares or 50.2% of crop acreage (in 2016 - 469.4 thousand hectares).

According to Sugar.ru price monitoring data for the period from 28.09.2017 to 05.10.2017 the US dollar rate dropped by -0.4% (on 28.09 - RUR 58.01/$, on 05.10 - RUR 57.78/$). Ruble Moscow wholesale price for sugar has not changed staying at 28.00 RUR/kg, Krasnodar wholesale price dropped by 0.40 RUR/kg (-1.54%). US dollar Moscow wholesale price for sugar increased by $0.002/kg (+0.41%), Krasnodar wholesale price dropped by $0.005 /kg (-1.12%).

Over the past week the Russian sugar market has revealed a "creeping" fall in prices. Failing to wait for the demand from buyers arise, manufacturers and large wholesalers started to reduce prices by RUR 0.10-0.20 a day. Vladivostok has set the record, where the price fell by RUR 3.00/kg today. By indirect evidence, companies are psychologically ready for a price below 25 rubles per kilogram. The reports on the harvest coming from the fields do not give grounds for any sharp fluctuations in the market and the prices, most likely, will stand still, or continue to slow down.

Export of sugar by Russian railways increased significantly and amounted to 23.2 thousand tons in September (in September2016 – 6.8 thousand tons). The main recipient of Russian sugar is Azerbaijan, which accounted for more than half of exports. Uzbekistan, where the Ministry of Agriculture has set high hopes, has not yet received a ton of Russian sugar in 2017.

UKRAINE

According to the Fiscal Service, in 9 months (January-September) 2017, the export of sugar (HS code 1701) makes 442 594 tons; the main importer of sugar from Ukraine is Sri Lanka (9.74%). The export of molasses (HScode 1703) - 55 720 tons, the main importer of molasses from Ukraine is Taiwan (38.84%). According to the analysis of data by the Federal Customs Service of Ukraine, conducted by Sugar.Ru, in 9 months (January - September) 2017 the balance of trade is as follows:

  • import of sugar (HS code 1701) has made 1 247 MT for total value of $882 thousand, export - 442 594 MT for total value of $215 930 thousand
  • import of molasses (HS code 1703) has made 12 MT for total value of $9 thousand, export - 55 720 MT for total value of $5 042 thousand
  • The largest exporter of sugar to Ukraine is Denmark (25.09%), the main importer of sugar from Ukraine - Sri Lanka (9.74%)
  • The largest exporter of molasses to Ukraine is Poland (55.56%), the main importer of molasses fromUkraine - Taiwan

By October 3 sugar beet was harvested from the area of 93 thousand hectares or 29% of total crop acreage (planned total 318 thousand hectares); 3.9 million tons of beets collected at an average yield of 42.3 MT/ha, reports the Ministry of Agrarian Policy.

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development will allocate a loan of $ 25 million to the agro-industrial holding Astarta, including for the construction of a sugar storage facility with a total capacity of 50,000 tons.

ARMENIA

The average consumer price of sugar fell by 4.6% in September 2017; in annual terms (September 2017 vs. September 2016) consumer prices for sugar increased by 3.4%, according to the National Statistics Committee.
