RUSSIA

According to the update by the Ministry of Agriculture as of April 7, 2017, sugar beet was sown at the area of 232.3 thousand hectares or 20.6% to the forecast (in 2016 - 161.5 thousand hectares). Stavropol region has sown sugar beet was sown at an area of 28.4 thousand hectares or 83.0% of the plan. The acreage sown with sugar beet has reached almost 187,200 hectares (or 94% of the planned) in Krasnodar region. As of April 10, farmers in Belgorod region have seeded 5%, or 3 638 hectares out of the 75 041 hectares allocated for sugar beet this season.

Wholesale price of sugar fell by 0.4%, retail - by 0.9% from March 28 to April 3, 2017, according to the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia.

UKRAINE

According to Gosstat, consumer sugar prices in the country increased by 3.6% in March 2017, since the beginning of the year - by 7.6%, and by annual rate (March 2017 by March 2016) - by 6.2%.

According to the annual report of Astarta holding, the sugar segment revenue increased by 15% to reach € 175 million (47% of the total revenue of the company). Sales of sugar amounted to about 390 thousand tons (+8% by 2015). "Astarta" reached a record mark of export of sugar in 139 thousand tons, which is almost 4 times more than in the previous year. Sales of molasses and granulated beet pulp were about 89 thousand tons (+8%) and 26 thousand tons (+2%), respectively.

By April 7 total 158 thousand hectares were seeded with sugar beet in the country or 54% to the forecast (the plan is 293 thousand hectares), the Ministry of Agrarian Policy said.

KAZAKHSTAN

The sugar beet acreage will increase almost two-fold in the Almaty region of Kazakhstan this year and will make over 9 thousand hectares (in 2016 - 6,5 thousand hectares, 256 thousand tons of sugar beet collected).
