Sugar market news from Russia, Belarus and Kyrgyzstan, Jan 27, 2020

NCSP Group (port of Novorossiysk) reports that in January-December 2019, the turnover of raw sugar increased to 563 thousand tons or 2.1 times (by 292 thousand tons) compared to the result of the previous year.


The sugar beet acreage in Tatarstan will decrease by approximately 10%, said RT Minister of Agriculture and Food Marat Zyabbarov. The total sown area for sugar beets will be 53.8 thousand ha.

The country faces sugar overproduction due to limited imports, therefore, the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation recommends reducing the area of sugar beets - at least by 20%.


The directors of all four sugar refineries in Belarus were detained, Belarusian media reported. The Belarusian authorities and the Belsahar association have not yet commented on the situation.


In 2020, sugar beet will be sown on 13.5 thousand ha in Kyrgyzstan, Deputy Minister of Agriculture Zhanybek Kerimaliev said.
