RUSSIA

The commodity surplus in the Russian sugar market may reach 1 million tons, taking into account the accumulated reserves for previous years, the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture informed. The volume of excess sugar is estimated at over 700 thousand tons at the beginning of the current processing season. This volume of sugar may be exported. At the same time, current sugar prices have already fallen to the level of demand of export markets. The production of beet sugar in the current season of 2019-2020 may reach 6.5 million tons in Russia, the Ministry of Agriculture estimates.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, as of October 18, 2019, sugar beets were harvested from an area of 753.8 thousand ha or 65.8% of the area sown; 33.8 million tons of beets collected (in 2018 - 31.4 million tons) at average yield of 44.83 MT/ha (in 2018 – 35.99 MT/ha).

BELARUS

By October 21, 2019, sugar beet was harvested from an area of 66.7 thousand hectares or 71.6% of the area sown (in 2018 - 70.2 thousand hectares), Sugar.Ru was informed in the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Belarus. About 3242.1 thousand MT (in 2018 - 3188.8 thousand MT) of beets were collected, with an average yield of 48.59 MT/ha (in 2018 – 45.45 MT/ha). The sugar content in beet in the republic is 16.7% versus 16.74% for the same date last year.
