Sugar beet harvesting update from Russia and Belarus and some other sugar news, Oct 16, 2019

Harvesting sugar beets in the Altai Territory is almost complete as of October 16, 2019. Beet was harvested from 27.4 thousand hectares (99.8%) by report date, the regional Ministry of Agriculture reports. The gross harvest of is estimated at 1.294 million tons, this is the historical maximum in the recent history of beet farming. Productivity this year exceeds 2018 season by 9.6 MT and makes average 47.2 MT from hectare.


According to the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, on October 15, 2019, sugar beets were harvested from an area of 700.2 thousand ha or 61.2% of the area sown; 31.1 million tons of beet collected (in 2018 - 28.4 million tons) at average yield of 44.35 MT/ha (in 2018 – 35.82 MT/ha).


According to Soyuzrossahar, as of October 15, 2019, the harvesting of sugar beets is carried out by the farms in the Southern, North - Caucasian, Central, Volga and Siberian federal districts. Total acreage harvested makes 715.9.0 thousand ha (62.5% of the crop area) with an average yield of 43.9 MT/ha. In 2018, on same day, 799.3 thousand ha were harvested, the yield was 36.0 MT/ha.

Farms in the Altai Territory are close to completion of sugar beet harvesting campaign.


By October 16, 2019, sugar beet was harvested from an area of 58.6 thousand hectares or 62.9% of the area sown (in 2018 - 60.3 thousand hectares), Sugar.Ru was informed in the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Belarus. About 2797.5 thousand MT (in 2018 - 2700.7 thousand MT) of beets were collected, with an average yield of 47.73 MT/ha (in 2018 – 44.8 MT/ha). The sugar content in beet in the republic is 16.64% versus 16.63% for the same date last year.


According to the figures by the Azerbaijani Customs Service, processed by Sugar.Ru, in September 2019, the export of sugar and raw sugar has made 6.95 thousand tons, thus, in 9 months of 2019 - 53.45 thousand tons (in 2018 - 35.74 thousand tons).
