Sugar beet harvesting update from Russia and Belarus, Sept 25, 2019

RUSSIA

According to Soyuzrossahar, as of September 24, 2019, the harvesting of sugar beets is carried out by the farms in the Southern, North-Caucasian, Central, Volga and Siberian federal districts. Total 386.1 thousand ha of crops were harvested (33.7% of the crop area) with an average yield of 43.1 MT/ha. In 2018, on this date, 424.4 thousand hectares were harvested, the yield was 34.6 MT/ha.

The Ministry of Agriculture of Russia does not develop the method of minimum sugar prices. In addition, the Ministry believes that it is necessary to use market-based regulatory instruments, the official ministerial press service reports. Experts of the Russian sugar market are against the introduction of minimum sugar prices.

BELARUS

By 25 September, 2019, sugar beet was harvested from an area of 27.7 thousand hectares or 29.6% of the area sown (in 2018 - 25.3 thousand hectares), Sugar.Ru was informed in the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Belarus. About 1254.4 thousand MT (in 2018 - 1075.3 thousand MT) of beets were collected, with an average yield of 45.24 MT/ha (in 2018 – 42.48 MT/ha). The beet sugar content in the republic is 16.33% versus 16.26% for the same date last year.
