RUSSIA

The volume of sugar moved amounted to 109 thousand tons in January-February 2019, which is 65 thousand tons or 49.7% more than in January-February 2018, NCSP Group (Novorossiysk port) reports

According to the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia, as of April 8, 2019, Russia has sown sugar beet out on an area of 162.3 thousand hectares or 14.3% of the forecast area (in 2018 - 121.5 thousand hectares).

According to the analysis of customs declarations of FCS conducted by Sugar.ru, in February 2019 Russia has imported 22.8 thousand tons of white sugar (HS code 170199). According to the results of 2 months of white sugar import campaign, Russia has shipped in 49.0 thousand tons (in 2018 - 47.7 thousand MT; in 2017 - 42.6 thousand MT). In the period January - February 2019, the main countries exporters of white sugar to Russia were BELARUS (93.49%) and UKRAINE (3.33%).

In February 2019 Russia has exported 7.3 thousand tons of white sugar. According to the results of 2 months of white sugar export campaign, Russia has shipped out 18.3 thousand tons (in 2018 - 146.4 thousand MT; in 2017 - 60.3 thousand MT). In the period January - February 2019, the main countries importers of white sugar from Russia were KAZAKHSTAN (63.08%) and UKRAINE (20.98%).

UKRAINE

As of April 8, 2019, sugar beet was seeded in Ukraine out on an area of 130 thousand hectares or 53% of the forecast, the press service of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy of Ukraine reports.

According to the published financial results of the Astarta agricultural holding, in 2018 segment revenue amounted to 119 million euros as a result of a 27 percent decline in sales and a prolonged fall in sugar prices. Almost 131 thousand tons of white sugar of the highest category were exported to Uzbekistan, EU countries and Asia.

KAZAKHSTAN

The restoration of the Karabulak sugar plant in the Almaty region of Kazakhstan is scheduled in the next two years, a spokesman for the SEC Zhetisu said.

According to Statkom of Kazakhstan, the wholesale price of white sugar in March 2019 increased by 1.29 % and amounted to 235 Tenge/kg (in 2018 - 187 Tenge/kg, in 2017 - 223 Tenge/kg), or RUR 40.73/kg (at the rate of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation by the middle of the reporting month).
