Gross harvest of sugar beet in Russia this year will decrease by 3%, and beet sugar production will decrease only by 1.5%, from 6.5 million tons to 6.4 million tons, according to forecasts from the Foreign Agricultural Service of the US Department of Agriculture (FAS USDA).

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, by April 27, 2018, sugar beet was sown on an area of 425.9 thousand hectares or 38.9% of the forecast.

Prodimex Group of Companies has suspended the project for the production of seeds and sugar beet hybrids worth almost 3 billion rubles, the reason was the imperfection of the legislative base. The Ministry of Agriculture promises to eliminate legislative gaps this summer, but the representative of Prodimex stated that this will unlikely solve the problems facing the project.


In March 2018 Armenia imported about 2977 tons of sugar and raw sugar (HS code 1701) for the amount of $1386.69 thousand; and 251 ton of other sugars (HS code 1702) for the amount of $136 thousand, was reported by the National Statistical Service of Armenia.


Sowing of sugar beet was carried out on an area of 253 thousand hectares by April 27, which is 84% of the forecast, reports the Ministry of Agrarian Policy.
