Russian and Ukrainian sugar news and beet harvest update from Belarus, Nov 07, 2017

RUSSIA

According to the railway shipment monitoring data by Sugar.Ru for January-October 2017, Russia imported 202,402 MT of sugar. The largest sugar exporting countries to Russia were Belarus (94.79%) and Lithuania (4.76%). Russian exports amounted to 277,961 MT, the main recipient countries were Kazakhstan (44.61%) and Azerbaijan (33.08%).

Domestic shipments amounted to 1 438 088 MT, Cheremnovsky sugar plant (4.56%) and Kirsanov sugar plant (4.50%) produced the largest volume of shipments. The total transit by rail through the territory of Russia was 179 939 MT.

UKRAINE

As of November 6, 2017, 1.16 million tons of sugar was produced out of 8.28 million tons of sugar beet processed at 41 sugar factories operating, Ukrtsukor reported.

According to the analysis of data by the Federal Customs Service of Ukraine, in 10 months (January - October) 2017, import of sugar (HS code 1701) has made 1 409 MT, export - 484 915 MT. The largest exporter of sugar to Ukraine is Denmark (26.77%), the main importer of sugar from Ukraine - Sri Lanka (10.22%). Import of other sugars (HS code 1702) has made 10 369 MT, export - 39 444 MT. The largest exporter of other sugars to Ukraine is China (29.68%), the main importer of other sugars from Ukraine - Russian Federation (27.97%

BELARUS

As of 7 November, 2017, sugar beet was harvested from an area of 91,1 thousand hectares or 93,2% of the area sown (in 2016 - 89,3 thousand hectares), the Ministry of Agriculture of Belarus informs. Bulk harvest makes 4499,3 thousand MT (in 2016 - 3943,3 thousand MT) of beets, with an average yield of 494 MT/ha (in 2016 – 441,5 MT/ha).
