Consumer sugar prices fell by 3% from August 29 to September 4, 2017; from the beginning of the year (vs. the end of December 2016) - by 3.5%, according to Rosstat.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, on September 6, 2017, sugar beet was excavated in Russia from an area of 166.9 thousand hectares or 13.9% to a sown area (in 2016 - 134.0 thousand hectares).

According to Sugar.ru price monitoring data for the period from 31.08.2017 to 07.09.2017 the US dollar rate dropped by 2.4% (on 31.08 - RUR 58.73/$, on 07.09 - RUR 57.34/$). Ruble Moscow wholesale price for sugar dropped by 1.00 RUR/kg (-3.45%), Krasnodar wholesale price dropped by 0.40 RUR/kg (1.51%). US dollar Moscow wholesale price for sugar dropped by $0,006 /kg (-1.21%), Krasnodar wholesale price increased by $0.004 /kg (+0.89%).
Wholesale prices for sugar remained stable last week at the level of 26-27 rubles per kilogram in Krasnodar and the Central Russia. The largest companies joined the traditional autumn game "Buy beets with profit", declaring low prices, but burdening deals with additional conditions: limits, uncertain shipping conditions, etc. Thus, Prodimex sells sugar at 25.8 rubles per kilogram, but not more than 20 tons "for one buyer" from a number of factories, Rusagro announces price of 25.5 rubles per kilogram, but not less than 10 railcars, etc. Given this factor, one should not expect any significant increase in prices in the short term; it is not in the interests of large holdings while they are busy fixing beet prices. However, the owners of sugar refineries are not the ones to envy as well, a year ago at this date, sugar was 37 rubles per kilogram, 10 rubles higher.
The fall in prices in the domestic market has spurred sugar exports from Russia: in the first week of September 7,400 tons were exported by rail (compared to total 7,000 tons in August), considerable volumes renewed flowing to Azerbaijan from sugar factories (Uspensky (Prodimeks) and Zherdevsky (Rusagro)). At the same time, rail exports to Kazakhstan dropped, 600 tons per week, compared to 10.2 thousand tons in August.
The sugar contract for NTB has waved signs of life, over the last two days 160 tons at 25.8 - 26.0 rubles/kg were sold there.
UKRAINE
In July 2017, Ukrainian producers supplied 18.3 thousand tons of sugar to foreign markets. The main deliveries were made to Azerbaijan – 7.8 thousand tons, Turkey – 5.2 thousand tons, Georgia – 2.5 thousand tons and Moldova – 1.4 thousand tons, according to "Ukrtsukor".

On September 6 the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine conducted searches in the main office of "Astarte". The leadership of Astarte considers these actions of the security services to be excessive and unreasonable, and appealed to the General Prosecutor's Office and the country's leadership about the inadmissibility of forceful pressure on business.
