Dynamics of sugar beet growth in Russia as of July 1 and Ukrainian sugar exports data from Ukrtsukor, Jul 07, 2017

RUSSIA

In June 2017, consumer prices for refined sugar increased by 3.8% in Russia, since the beginning of the year – decreased by 6.2%, and in annual terms (vs. June 2016) – decreased by 14.9%, according to Rosstat.

Dynamics of sugar beet growth as of July 1, 2017 (according to Soyuzrossahar):

  • Beet weight is 92 g (in 2016 -125 g, in 2015- 117 g)
  • Leaf weight 196 g (in 2016 -237 g, in 2015 - 227 g),
  • Plant density - 96 thousand pieces per 1 hectare (in 2016 – 97 000, in 2015 – 92 000).

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the current level of prices for refined sugar is 17.8% lower (as of June 26, 2017) than the price level of the corresponding period of 2016 (46.3 thousand rubles per ton). The average consumer price for refined sugar increased by 1.6% for the week and amounted to 45.2 rubles per kilogram (16.3% less than the corresponding date of 2016).

UKRAINE

Total volume of 6,355 thousand tons of sugar was exported in June 2017. The largest deliveries were made to Georgia – 1 504 tons, Moldova – 1 141 tons and Turkmenistan – 881 tons, according to "Ukrtsukor". Ukrainian producers have exported 738.5 thousand tons of sugar total in September-June of 2016/2017 marketing year, which is almost 10 times more than during the same period of the previous marketing year – 71.3 thousand tons.
