RUSSIA
Belgorod region plans sow 78.3 thousand hectares with sugar beet in 2017. Bashkiria expects 51.5 thousand hectares (in 2016 - 51.4 thousand hectares), regional authorities report.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, as of March 9, 2017, total 1.1 thousand tons of sugar beet seeds were imported from abroad.

The Federal Antimonopoly Service considers it expedient to launch procurement interventions of sugar, this will reduce the volatility of prices for this product in Russia, will contribute to the growth of export efficiency.

In the period March 14–20, 2017, Russian consumer sugar prices fell by 0.8%, and by 7.8% from the beginning of the year (vs. the end of December 2016), according to Rosstat.

Beet-growing farms in Krasnodar region began to sow sugar beet. By March 21 total 6.9 thousand hectares were planted (3% of planned acreage). This season it is planned to sow 199 thousand hectares with sugar beet (in 2016 - 186.9 thousand hectares).

According to Sugar.ru price monitoring data for the period from March 16–23, 2017, the dollar rate fell by 2.5% (on March 16 RUR 59.11/US$1, on March 23 – RUR 57.64/US$1) . The wholesale ruble price for sugar in Moscow increased by 0.10 rubles / kg (+ 0.29%), the Krasnodar wholesale price increased by 0.20 rub./kg (+ 0.63%). Dollar wholesale Moscow sugar price increased by $ 0.017 / kg (2.97%), the wholesale Krasnodar price increased by $ 0.017 / kg (3.15%).
"Prodimex" continue to dictate prices in the market, arranging price swings. At the end of the week "Prodimex" raised the price to 32.1 rubles / kg, provoking expectations of further price increases. A number of companies temporarily stopped trade, others continued to sell but limited volumes. Traders complain about the lack of sugar offers from large companies, despite the fact that demand remains high. Perhaps now is a good time to sell sugar, the closer the opening of the next season, there is higher risk of dumping the remaining unsold sugar companies.
Export of sugar continues to grow. If in January Russia supplied 21 000 tons of white sugar for export, in February 31 000 tons, and after 22 days in March the exports is 35.4 thousand tons already. Thus, total Russia’s refined sugar exports by rail have reached 170 thousand tons from the beginning of the season. Significant volumes were purchased by Azerbaijan, the deliveries to the country have made 19.6 thousand tons this year. delivery of Prodimex the expected from the ship with 5 thousand tons of white sugar from the port of Novorossiysk by the end of March, probably same volumes will be shown by rail cargo monitoring. By March 22, the shipment of white sugar from the Uspensky sugar refinery to Novorossiysk has reached 2.5 thousand tons. Earlier, export deliveries of sugar through Novorossiysk were carried out by containers, and, according to provisional information, "Prodimex" has exported lots of 10 000 and 5 000 tons. Export of Russian sugar can be obstructed by the high RUR/US$ rate and by falling world prices, as an example, from the end of February till now, the Contract #5 fell from $ 560.6/ton to $488.3/ton (2 830 rubles/ton at the current rate) at the London Stock Exchange.
BELARUS
According to the analysis of the data of the FCS of Belarus, for 1 month (January) 2017, the import of raw sugar amounted to almost 20.5 thousand tons from Brazil, the total export of the group HS 1701 amounted to 24.2 thousand tons. Belarus has imported 2.6 thousand tons of white sugar from Russia in January. Other sugar (HS code 1702) imports have made almost 1 000 tons. Export of molasses (HS code 1703) was 4 896 tons, beet pulp – 4 400 tons.
