RUSSIA

Russian consumer prices for sugar have increased by 0.4% in the period January 1-11, 2016, according to Rosstat.

According Soyuzrossakhar, by January 14, 2016 Russia has produced 5.1 mln MT of sugar out of sugar beet harvested in 2015 (which is 70 000 MT more than in 2011/12 marketing year). Total production of sugar out of sugar beet harvest 2015 could reach 5.15 million MT, which is up by 700 000 tons compared to the level of production in 2014 season.

According to price monitoring by sugar.ru in the period from Dec 24 2015 to Jan 14, 2016 the dollar exchange rate grew by 7.8% (on Dec 24 US$ 1 = RUR 70.93; on Jan 14 US$ 1 = RUR 76.43). The ruble prices have promptly followed the dollar rally. Moscow ruble price of sugar rose by 2.95 rubles/kg (+ 6.77%), Krasnodar price grew by RUR 3.30/kg (+7.88%). Moscow US dollar equivalent the prices of sugar fell by US$ 0.006/kg (-0.98%), Krasnodar price has not changed, staying at US$ 0.591/kg.

 
BELARUS

Resolution of the Council of Ministers №8 dated January 11, 2016, which abolishes the list of socially important commodities (including sugar products) with prices regulated by the Ministry of Trade, shall take effect on January 15, 2016. The Ministry of Trade, however, retains the right impose restrictions following a significant rise in prices for these commodity groups, but restrictions shall last no longer than 90 days during the year – for instance, it’s what happens now in the case of a number of products, including sugar.
MOLDOVA

According to the National Bureau of Statistics of the Republic of Moldova, the consumer prices for sugar increased by 0.5% in December 2015, while in annual terms (December 2015 to December 2014) - by total 19.2%.
