RUSSIA

According to the operational data of Soyuzrossahar, as of April 21, 2020, 577.0 thousand ha of sugar beets were sown in Russia (59.5% of the forecast). In 2019, 531.0 thousand ha were sown on this date. According to the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, on April 21, 2020, sugar beet was sown in Russia on an area of 593.5 thousand hectares, or 62.8% of the projected area.

By April 21, 2020 sowing of sugar beet in Belgorod region was carried out on an area of 45 680 ha or 92% out of the 49 906 ha planned, reports the regional Department of the agro-industrial complex. In 2019 sugar beet crops in the region made 57 183 ha.

According to the Food Safety Monitoring and Forecasting System of the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia, prices for beet sugar from industrial producers have made RUR 25.04/ on April 16, 2020 (0.0% per week).

The average consumer price for refined sugar in Russia, in March 2020 was RUR 34.18/kg, which is RUR 3.96 higher than a month ago, Rosstat reports. Last year (in March 2019) the average consumer price for granulated sugar in the Russian Federation was RUR 46.04 for 1 kg.

Until the end of quarantine, the Ukrainian government established state regulation of prices for a number of food products, including sugar.

Sugar surplus of 510 thousand tons is expected in the EAEU in 2020, said Deputy Minister of Economy of Armenia Arman Khojoyan.
