NCSP Group (Novorossiysk port) reports that the volume of sugar moved in January-April 2019 has amounted to 167 thousand tons, which is 57 thousand tons or 51.3% more than in January-April 2018.

According to Sugar.ru price monitoring data for the period from 13.06.2019 to 20.06.2019 the US dollar rate dropped by -0,8% (on 13.06 - RUR 64,52/$, on 20.06 - RUR 63,98/$). Ruble Moscow wholesale price for sugar increased by 0,60 RUR/kg (+2,19%), Krasnodar wholesale price increased by 1,00 RUR/kg (+3,85%). US dollar Moscow wholesale price for sugar increased by $0,013 /kg (+3,06%), Krasnodar wholesale price increased by $0,019 /kg (+4,71%).
The reversal of the wholesale prices of sugar, so long spoken about by the major manufacturers, has come to life. Rebounding from the level of 25.00-25.50 rubles / kg, for the second day the prices are growing by 1 ruble/kg dayly. It is difficult to say whether this is a market correction or just an attempt to increase the level. Sugar was quite actively sold at 26.50 rubles / kg, though at 27.50 rubles / kg, only 100 tons of white sugar was sold on NTB by 14:30. “Prodimex” and “Rusagro” keep prices at 27.50 rubles / kg, “Dominant” declares the same price, but to those who want to buy the company declares that it is out of stocks and offers sugar of a new crop at 27 rubles/kg instead. Some of the smaller market participants suspended sales and are waiting for further development. We still do not see any fundamental reasons for a significant increase in sugar prices, high sugar stocks and the expectation of a good harvest have not gone away, and logistical problems that often arise at the junction of seasons are not observed.
According to Sugar.Ru railway monitoring data, in two weeks of June 2019 Russia imported only 2,612 tons of white sugar (for the whole of May - 11.6 thousand tons), which is a direct result of the fall in wholesale prices for sugar. Sugar imports from Ukraine and Lithuania continue to flow to Kaliningrad, from the beginning of June, deliveries amounted to 680 tons (in May, a total of 1016 tons of Ukrainian sugar were imported). Export for 20 days of June amounted to 12.7 thousand tons (for the whole of May - 20.8 thousand) almost all to Kazakhstan (11.6 thousand tons). Transit of white sugar in the Russian railway amounted to 17.3 thousand tons (in May only 25.3 thousand tons), including 7.5 thousand tons to Azerbaijan (all of Ukraine), 3.7 thousand tons to Tajikistan (Ukraine - 91% m Belarus - 9%) and 2.9 thousand tons to Kazakhstan (all Belarus)

According to the analysis of data by the Federal Customs Service of Ukraine, conducted by Sugar.Ru, in 4 months of 2019 (January - April), export of white sugar (HS 170199) has made total 135 567 MT, in April only - 31 593 MT. The main importer white sugar from Ukraine - Azerbaijan (25 977 MT). Export of beet pulp (HS code 230320) has made total 72 696 MT, in April only - 4 343 MT. The main importer beet pulp from Ukraine - Saudi Arabia (38 256 MT). Import of sugar beet seeds (HS code 120910) has made total 599 MT, in April only - 1 MT. The largest exporter of sugar beet seeds to Ukraine is Germany (448 MT).

In January-May 2019, Ukrainian enterprises sold 326.9 thousand tons of beet sugar (-1.5% by 2018), Sugar.Ru was told by the State Statistics Service of Ukraine. The average consumer price of sugar was UAH 8942.3 per ton (RUR 21,662.72/MT - at the average rate of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation for 2019), which is 3.7% less than in 2018. The price is indicated without VAT, subsidies, transportation, forwarding and overhead costs.
