Sugar price monitoring data by and news from Belarus, Dec 07, 2017

Latest news are available in our daily reports.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, as of December 6, 2017, sugar beet was harvested from the area of 1170.9 thousand hectares or 99.5% to the total acreage due (in 2016 - 1.1 million hectares).

Since the beginning of December 2017 consumer prices for sugar decreased by 0.1%, and from the beginning of the year (by the end of December 2016) - by 22.3%, according to Rosstat.

According to price monitoring data for the period from 30.11.2017 to 07.12.2017 the US dollar rate increased by 1,0% (on 30.11 - RUR 58,33/$, on 07.12 - RUR 58,93/$). Ruble Moscow wholesale price for sugar increased by 0,20 RUR/kg (+0,74%), Krasnodar wholesale price increased by 0,60 RUR/kg (+2,46%). US dollar Moscow wholesale price for sugar dropped by $0,002 /kg (-0,43%), Krasnodar wholesale price increased by $0,006 /kg (+1,44%).

Wholesale prices by the end of this week have stabilized at the level of 25 rubles per kilogram, although there are reports of sales of limited volumes at 24.5 rubles per kilo. Demand by market participants is estimated as low.

Export of Russian sugar continues to take new records. During the 7 days of December total 17,8 thousand tons of white sugar was delivered for export by rail, so we have reason to hope that, despite the strange requirements of the CFTU to declare the wooden formwork of the door of the car as "additional equipment" (good though not high tech!), December indicators will exceed October's 50 thousand tons, and will be closer to 60 thousand tons. Since the beginning of the season, Armenia has received 6,000 tons of sugar by trucks from Russia (22,000 tons since the beginning of the year), roughly the same number was received by Azerbaijan. The volume of truck export from large Russian companies from the European part of Russia varies from 6 to 7 thousand tons since the beginning of the season, so that a rough estimate of auto exports in Transcaucasia, Ukraine (Donetsk, Lugansk) and Belarus will be about 7.5-10 thousand tons per month .

Perhaps such volumes of exports will remain until the end of the season. Prior to Putin's election, the dollar rate will keep low, so if the exchange prices for sugar do not go down, most of the surplus will be removed. It will become more clear in January, whether the price will fall, as in previous year, or not. Then the overall export will become clear by that time as well.

The main intrigue of this year is that many companies decided to play "prodimex", and keep the sugar until "high season" - summer-2018. But it was good when the sugar was only retained by Prodimex by June, to dictate prices, opposite to possible industrial quantities with 4-5 companies.

According to the monitoring data by, for 11 months of 2017 Belarus delivered 112.2 thousand tons of white sugar transit the Russian rail. In 4 months of current season the volume of transit shipments by rail amounted to 29.9 thousand tons (in 2016 - 11.7 thousand tons, in 2015 - 13.4 thousand tons). The main recipient of Belarusian sugar in 2017 is Kazakhstan (42% of total transit) and Tajikistan (24%).
