RUSSIA

Consumer prices for granulated sugar decreased by 2% in Russia in August 2017; in annual terms (from August 2016) - by 16.5%, according to Rosstat.

According to Soyuzrossahar, as of September 5, 2017, total 156.3 thousand hectares of crops were harvested (13.0% of the area sown). In 2016, on this date, 127.5 thousand hectares were harvested.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, as of September 5, 2017, the total acreage of sugar beet harvested makes 155.2 thousand hectares or 13% of the area sown (in 2016 - 122.0 thousand hectares).

UKRAINE

Five sugar factories of Ukraine operate as of September 5; total volume processed makes 81.7 thousand tons and 7.3 thousand tons of sugar produced. In 2017/2018 MY the plans hold launch of 46 sugar plants and production of sugar at the level of previous season – around 2 million tons. Domestic consumption is estimated at 1.5 million tons, according to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy.

According to the State Fiscal Service, for 8 months (January-August) of 2017 the export of sugar (the code of HS code 1701) has made 425 855 tons for $ 209 293 thousand. The largest sugar exporter is Denmark (25.59%), the main importer of Ukrainian sugar - Sri Lanka (9.84%).

CUSTOMS UNION

The duty on import of raw sugar to the Customs Union remained at $ 240/MT in September 2017. The average monthly price for raw sugar at the ICE stock exchange was $ 304.21/MT in August, respectively, the import duty in October 2017 will remain at the level of September - $ 240/MT.
