RUSSIA

According to the figures by the Ministry of Agriculture, by April 20, 2017, sugar beet was sown at an area of 594.3 thousand hectares or 52.6% of the forecast (in 2016 - 629.2 thousand hectares).

KAZAKHSTAN

Aksu sugar plant has started reconstruction and preparatory works to be launched in the new season.

UZBEKISTAN

The Ministry of Finance has explained that the growth of domestic sugar prices is dependent on an increase in world prices for cane raw sugar, as well as an increase in the exchange rate of freely convertible currency to a local Sum. Currently, the maximum wholesale price for refined sugar is set at 4,750 Sums/kg (72.85 rubles / kg at the current exchange rate), and the marginal retail price is 5,200 Sums/kg (79.76 rubles / kg).

BELARUS

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said that control over prices will be continued, and that abandoning such control will "led to the fact that the cost of sugar unreasonably increased by 25%."

As of April 21, 2017, total 44.1 thousand hectares were sown with sugar beet in the Republic of Belarus (45.9% of the plan), the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of Belarus informs.

According to the Federal Customs Service of Belarus, imports of raw sugar amounted to 56043 tons, import of white sugar (HS code 170199) - 5512 tons, almost the whole volume arrived from Russia, 77 times higher than imports for the same period last year. Import of other sugars (HS code 1702) has made 1875 tons.
