RUSSIA

Wholesale price of refined sugar increased by 0.9%, retail - decreased by 0.5% in the period from March 7 to March 13, 2017, according to the Ministry of Agriculture.

The production of sugar from sugar beet harvest may drop to 5.8 million tons in 2017 (from 6.15 million tons in 2016), suggested the chairman of the board of Soyuzrossahar, Andrey Bodin. Exports of the commodity were estimated by Mr. Bodin at 550 000  tons in 2016/17 agricultural year (until September 2017).

According to the administration of Lipetsk region, the following major investment projects are anticipated to occur in the regional sugar industry:

Reconstruction of Yelets sugar factory, bringing the sugar beet processing capacity of the plant to 10,000 tons per day.

Reconstruction of the main technological processes at Gryazinsky sugar refinery, increasing the processing capacity to 4,500 tons of beet per day.

Reconstruction and modernization of the Khmelinetsk sugar refinery to reach the DC capacity on beet 4,900 tons.

UKRAINE

According to Ukrtsukor’ estimates, the acreage of sugar beet will grow by at least 12% in 2017 and as a result will reach 330-350 thousand hectares. Around 45-47 factories may be launched in the season 2017-2018.

According to the balances of the Economic Discussion Club, the country has exported 522,000 tons of sugar in the first half of 2016/2017 Marketing Year (September-February), or a quarter of total national production. In 2016/2017 MY Ukrainian commodity producers produced 2 008 000 tons of sugar, which is 40% more than in the season 2015/2016. In September-February 2016/2017 MY the volume of domestic sugar consumption is estimated at 813 000 tons. There was practically no import of sugar. The estimation of sugar stocks at the beginning of the marketing period (as of September 1, 2016) was increased from 213 000 tons to 331 000 tons.

KAZAKHSTAN

According to the StatCom, the production of sugar and molasses decreased by -85.02% and amounted to 5788 tons in February 2017 (in 2016 – 21 766 tons, in 2015 – 1 487 tons). Thus, total volume of 44 423 tons of sugar and molasses was produced from the beginning of 2017.

KYRGYZSTAN

The State Agency for Antimonopoly Regulation set a minimum controlled price for sugar (the commodity HS code 1701 99 100 9) at the level of 35 Kyrgyz Soms/kg (29.25 rubles/kg at the current rate of the Central Bank of Russia).
