RUSSIA

Imports of sugar from non-CIS countries in January 2017 has amounted to US$ 14.2 million (-11.5% compared to January 2016), the Federal Customs Service reported.

A record 5.6 million tons of sugar beet was harvested in Kursk region in 2016. Over RUR 2 billion was spent on modernization and reconstruction of 9 sugar factories. Company "Prodimex" executes a large-scale reconstruction of Zolotukhinsky sugar factory. The daily processing capacity ensured has reached 30,000 tons of beet, thus adding to DC about 3,500 tons from a level of 2015. The region has produced 445,000 tons of sugar, which is 25.5% more than in 2015, according to the regional administration.

UKRAINE

According to the agenda of the meeting published at the government website, at the session held on Wednesday, February, 8, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine intends to approve the sale of sugar from the state intervention fund.

According to the rail cargo statistics by Sugar.Ru for January 2017, the volume of Ukrainian sugar delivered by rail transit the territory of Russia has made mere 814 tons. This is 2.2 times less than in January last year and 8 times less than in January the year before. From the beginning of 2016/17 season, deliveries of Ukrainian sugar to Kazakhstan have ceased and were re-channeled to Azerbaijan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan.
