RUSSIA
According to Soyuzrossakhar, by December 14 Russia has produced 5.02 million MT of sugar from beet harvest 2016. Gross production of sugar beet has made about 51.3 million MT, out of which 41.9 million MT of sugar beet were supplied to sugar factories.

The Japanese company Mitsui & Co will invest tens of billions of Yens in "Rusagro" and will offer the know-how in the field of operations to the Russian company as well as supply of Japanese agricultural machinery, all of these aimed to increase "Rusagro"sales in Russia and Asia, the newspaper " Nikkei" informed.

According to the data of price monitoring by Sugar.ru for the period December 08-15, 2016 the US dollar value has dropped by 4.9% (on Dec 08 - RUR 63.91/$; on Dec 15 - RUR 60.81/$). Moscow wholesale price of sugar has increased by RUR 0.30/kg (+ 0.85%), in Krasnodar the wholesale price has not changed, remaining at the level of RUR 34.00/kg. US dollar wholesale price of sugar increased by $ 0.034/kg (+6.13%) in Moscow, and by $ 0.027/kg (+ 5.08%) in Krasnodar.

The demand for sugar continues to be low. Attempts of companies to slightly reduce the price of wholesale delivery down to RUR 33,5/kg do not lead to any success, the secondary market believes these figures are too high, however, it will have to buy sugar in the New Year period. Who will win in this game of nerves we will witness in a few days.

As of December 14 only 1.3% of sugar beet acreage is left to be harvested, thus, if nothing is lost, the expected gross harvest of sugar beet will be 51 900 000 MT. The data by "Soyuzrossakhar" at the beginning of December show that the sugar production yield makes 15.28%, while the average for the season is 15.17%. The processing of the remaining 10 million MT in the theory will ensure another 0.98 million tons of sugar, but it is necessary to take into account the natural decrease of sucrose content in piled beets. If we estimate the total loss for the remaining beet at 20% we will get the forecast of annual sugar production of up to 5.8 mln MT.

According to the latest report of "Belsahar" (Belarus) sugar production in Belarus is 30% ahead of 2015 season, total volume of white sugar produced in December makes 6 501 400 tons. The rate of deliveries of Belarus sugar to Russia by rail repeats previous year – total 258 000 tons delivered from the beginning of the year (in 2015 total supply was 268 000 tons), but the transit of Belarus sugar by Russian rail has dropped significantly: from the beginning of the year – 16 100 tons compared to 66.9 thousand tons transported in the entire 2015. Increased sugar reserves in Belarus are largely a pending export to Russia.

Ukraine has produced 1.9 mln MT of refined sugar by December 13 (on December 15. 2015- 1.4 million MT) and has exported 335 250 tons of the commodity from the beginning of this year (according to today's report by "Ukrtsukor" the export has made 115 000 tons for 11 months of 2015; last year 215 000 tons were reported to go abroad though taking into account supplies to the Crimea). Significant volumes of Ukrainian sugar export supported by current domestic price of UAH 13 400-14 000/MT (or RUR 31.6-33/kg) make the direct competition to the Russian exports of sugar.

The rate of Russian sugar exports by rail fell slightly, in the first 14 days of December 12 700 MT of sugar was exported (in November 2016 – 29 100 tons) thus making total 72.7 thousand tons of sugar exports from the beginning of 2016. Transit of sugar in December, according to the Russian railway data stays at the level of the previous month, 2 800 MT shipped in the two weeks of December (compared to 5 800 tons dispatched in November).
BELARUS
According to railway cargo monitoring by Sugar.Ru, from the beginning of the year and by December 15, Belarus has exported 255 500 tons of white sugar to Russia (compared to 253 000 tons total exported in 2015). Three sugar mills, in Gorodeya, Skidel and Slutsk have roughly equal shares, followed by Zhabinka sugar plant.
