RUSSIA

According Soyuzrossakhar, by May 12 the Russian Federation has sown 1,005,700 hectares with sugar beet. It is planned to seed total 1,107,500 hectares this season. In 2015, on same day 928,900 hectares were sown.

Soyuzrossakhar says, carryover stocks of sugar in the country at the beginning of May 2016 are slightly higher than the level of stocks at the beginning of May 2015. It is expected that by the end of July, carryover stocks of sugar in the country will approximately correspond to stock level by end of July 2015, which was 1.4 million tons.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Russia has sown sugar beet on an area of 1.0 million hectares by May 12, 2016, or 94.5% of the forecast (in 2015 – 928.6 thousand hectares).

Sugar beet was planted on 21 300 hectares in the Republic of Mordovia, as of May 13; in the Republic of Bashkortostan - 41,800 hectares, in Ryazan region - 6,5 thousand hectares (96.1% of the plan), according to the regional Departments of Agriculture.

The introduction of excise duty on palm oil and harmful products (including sugar) is irrelevant, so the authorities have refused this idea, Alexei Ulukayev, the Minister of Economic Development, has announced.

Russian consumer prices for sugar decreased by 0.2% in the period May 5 to 10, 2016; from the beginning of the year prices have increased by 2.3% (vs. the end of December 2015), according to Rosstat.

FAS of Russia approved the application of the Group of companies "Rusagro" to acquire 100% shares of JSC Kursk region based "Kshensky Sugar Refinery" (affiliate of "Razulyay" holding).

UKRAINE

By the end of week of May 5-11, decline of sugar prices has made 0.78%. The price of sugar was in the range UAH 12600-12900/MT during this period.

The national acreage of sugar beet has reached 283.4 thousand hectares on May 12, or 101% of the predicted values.

BELARUS

According Statistical Committee of Belarus, consumer prices for refined sugar increased by 0.1% in the country in April 2016; from the beginning of the year the growth has made 9.25%.
